Harbour, North Berwick

The Harbour in North Berwick is a late 17th to early 18th century structure that extends to the north between North Berwick and Milsey Bays. It has undergone later repairs and additions and measures approximately 285 feet long by 105 feet wide. The harbour is constructed from large rough Law stone blocks, with some earlier boulder work still visible. Stone steps have been cut into the northern, southern, and eastern inner angles.

The northwest breakwater is situated on Platcock Ridge and features some uneven dry-stone masonry, with wooden wedges securing the outer face on the northern side. A substantial parapet made of pointed blocks protects the quay on the basin side. There is a polygonal enclosure to the parapet on the western side, dating from 1811, which includes some pulvinated blocks and a string course, along with large Law stone pawls on the quay.

The northwest pier dates from the early 18th century, while the southwest pier was constructed around 1802. The southeast quay may date back to approximately 1788.
