Description
Burnmouth Harbour is an enclosed harbour that dates from the early to earlier 19th century. The pier was extended and a beacon was added by engineers D & T Stevenson in 1876, followed by the construction of the western breakwater in 1879. An inner basin was created in 1959. The harbour features an 800-foot long, near L-plan pier on the east side with a continuous parapet. There are steps and a beacon located to the northwest. A straight pier projects from the main pier, and a later L-plan pier extends from the shore to form the inner basin to the southwest. To the northwest, there is a 325-foot long angled breakwater that encloses the outer basin. The walls are predominantly made of squared and coursed, tooled sandstone, although some areas are heavily rendered. The L-plan pier to the southwest is also rendered. Plain iron bollards line the concrete walkways throughout the harbour.
