Description

Burnmouth Station, opened in 1849 and closed in 1962, has been converted to residential use in the later 20th century with further additions and alterations. This single-storey, six-bay former station building is designed in a near T-plan, featuring a gabled projection on the outer left and various additions at the rear. The exterior is constructed of squared, coursed, and tooled cream sandstone, with sandstone ashlar dressings that are partly droved. It has a base course and overhanging timber bracketed eaves, along with narrow quoin strips, droved quoins, and droved long and short surrounds to raised margins, topped with projecting painted cills.

On the northeast (entrance) elevation, there is a boarded timber door in the penultimate bay on the outer right, accompanied by a four-pane fanlight. Flanking this door are single windows, with an original clock face set between the openings to the right. There is a single window offset to the left of center, and a boarded timber door in the subsequent bay to the left, also with a four-pane fanlight. A bipartite window is centered in the gabled projection on the outer left.

The southwest (rear) elevation features a flush panelled timber door in the penultimate bay on the outer left, with a two-pane fanlight above it. There is a single window to the outer left and a lean-to addition to the right, along with a lean-to greenhouse obscuring the bays to the right of center. A piended red brick projection adjoins the gabled wing advanced to the outer right.

The building predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, with lying-pane windows on the outer left. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and there are rendered stacks with various circular cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1999.
