Description
The Harbour Office, located at 16 Victoria Street in Stromness, is an early 20th-century building dating from around 1909. It is a single-storey, three-bay rectangular structure with a symmetrical design, featuring a slightly advanced central gabled entrance. This building forms the northern side of a small square, with the Eventide Club on the southern side, which is listed separately. The exterior is finished in painted cement render with a lined texture. It has moulded architraves around the openings and stop-chamfered stone mullions and angles.
On the southern (principal) elevation, there is a modern timber door with a rectangular fanlight in the central bay, topped by a finial on the gable above. Each of the flanking bays features a bipartite window. The northern (rear) elevation has a single bay with a window in the center. The eastern (side) elevation also has a single bay, which includes a deep-set part-glazed timber panelled door to the right, with a gablehead stack above. The western (side) elevation is a single bay gabled section with a window set to the left and a gablehead stack above.
The windows are two-pane timber sash and case types. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and features a pierced decorative red clay ridge, along with a red clay finial on the gabled porch. The gablehead stacks on the east and west sides are coped and cement-rendered, and there is a square iron ridge-vent along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the Harbour Office features architraved timber panelled doors and a timber reception counter in the eastern office.
