Description

The Parish Council Chambers and Registrar's Office, located at 36-38 Roman Road in Bearsden, was built in 1907. This two-storey building features a half-timbered design with stugged ashlar blocks of varying sizes, harl with timber lattice, and ashlar dressings. The entrance showcases a roll-moulded doorcase, along with stone transoms and mullions.

The entrance elevation includes a half-round stone porch that is angled in a bay to the right of the center. To the left, there is a deep-set timber door and window. Above the porch, a large carved panel reads '1907 PARISH COUNCIL CHAMBERS', which interrupts the stone balustrade and is topped with a segmental pediment. Behind this, there is a gabled bay featuring a small bipartite window to the outer right at ground level and another window centered above. To the left of center, a lower hall with a swept roof has two 4-light transomed windows.

The side elevation is asymmetrical, dominated by a full-height shouldered stack that incorporates a ground floor window in the bay to the left of center. There is another window to the outer left on the first floor. The central bay contains a door, which is accessible by a wheelchair ramp, along with two adjacent windows to the left and a tripartite window on the first floor. A slightly advanced, full-height canted and gabled bay to the outer right features tripartite windows on both floors.

On the opposite side elevation, there is a broad gable at the center with a door below a tripartite window in the canted bay to the right, and a window to the left on the first floor. A narrow link bay to the right has a window at ground level and a small bipartite window above, while the gabled bay of the hall projects to the outer right.

The rear elevation is asymmetrical and includes a variety of elements, such as two chimney breasts that break the eaves and a single-storey piend-roofed wing. The building features small-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, except on the west side. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar stacks with cans. The bargeboarding is plain, with deeply overhanging eaves and cast-iron downpipes that have decorative rainwater hoppers.

Inside, there is some decorative plasterwork, a large fireplace in the small hall, and timber panelling on the ground floor.
