And Gatepiers, Blaven, 24 Boclair Crescent, Bearsden

And Gatepiers is a distinctive villa located at 24 Boclair Crescent in Bearsden, designed by Arthur Nicholson in 1925 for himself. The building features a unique style that blends elements of 17th century Scottish architecture with influences from Dutch, South African, and colonial designs.

The villa is asymmetrical, comprising one and two storeys with an attic, and is finished in white harling. The glazing is mostly small-paned, and the roofs are a mix of red tiles and flat surfaces. The main range has a crow-stepped design and an L-plan front with three bays. The left side features a curly-gabled jamb, and there are dormer heads above the main eaves in the other bays. The central doorway is arched with moulded deep ingoes and has a decorative glazed inner door. The building has plain stacks topped with red chimney cans.

To the left, there is a low wing with a bowed window, while at the rear, a loggia and a plain square two-storey range are present, although the latter may not be original. Inside, many original fittings remain, including Baxi-type fires. The garden and boundary walls are also white-harled, featuring ball-finialed gatepiers.
