Description

Seaforth is a villa located on Sandy Loan in Gullane, built around 1900. This two-storey and attic gabled villa features a design composed of smaller and larger interlocking squares. The exterior is harled with droved pink ashlar dressings and margins.

On the south elevation, which serves as the main entrance, there is a wide segmental archway positioned off-centre to the left, leading to a recessed doorway with a panelled door. To the left of the archway is a single window, while to the right is a tripartite window that incorporates the chamfered angle of a polygonal tower. The eaves sweep down to the ground floor at the right of the left gabled bay. The first floor of the tower is surrounded by a multi-light window, and it features a moulded eaves cornice, a polygonal roof, and a finial. There is also a canted window at the ground level to the outer right, topped with a leaded half dome roof.

The east elevation showcases a full-height canted bay on the right, which breaks the eaves and has slate hanging between the floors, along with a piend roof and finial. To the right is a recessed gabled bay with irregular openings.

On the west elevation, the gable of the main front is to the right, with eaves sweeping down to the ground floor at night. There is a stair window with an architrave and a small window to the outer right at ground level, set within a segmentally pedimented and aproned ashlar surround. To the left, there is a gabled advanced wing with a lean-to glasshouse.

The villa features a variety of glazing patterns, including small panes in the casement windows and upper sashes, with plate glass in the lower sections. There are flat-roofed bipartite dormers with moulded cornices at intervals, and ashlar coped stacks. The roof is covered with distinctive green slates.

Inside, the villa includes chimneypieces with cast-iron grates and plasterwork cornices. The original tiling in the bathrooms and an Edwardian bath have been retained. The property is also bordered by a coped, squared, and snecked rubble retaining wall, along with a timber gate.
