Description
Chartwell is a 2-storey house built around 1910 in the Arts and Crafts style, featuring classical details on the rear elevation and a lower eaves service block on the west side. The north entrance elevation has five irregularly spaced bays, with two gabled bays that break the eaves at the center and to the left. The central entrance includes a roll-moulded doorway with a timber boarded door. Above, there are mullioned windows with transoms at the center and a stair window to the right. The outer bay on the right is advanced, featuring a piend roof and a piended dormer head above the first-floor window.
The south garden elevation presents five symmetrical bays, with a consoled shell hood over the central door. Tall windows flank the door at ground level, while there are three first-floor windows, with the center one being mullioned. The outer bays at ground level have Venetian windows, and tripartite windows are positioned above. A small-pane glazed conservatory with a pentice roof is located to the outer left, in the re-entrant angle with the service bays. The side elevations feature gables or gablet dormer heads, and there is a decorative wrought-iron balcony on the east side.
The house has small-pane glazing in the casement windows, grey-green slate roofing, and harled stacks with stepped grey engineering brick coping. The garden side is enclosed by harled boundary walls topped with slated coping. The gatepiers are made of grey engineering brick with slate pyramidal caps, echoing the materials used in the house.
