Whim Lodge And The Bents, Hill Road, Gullane

Whim Lodge and The Bents is a double villa built around 1900, featuring two storeys and a symmetrical design. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings and a base course.

On the east and west elevations, there are roll-moulded, lugged architraves around the doors, which have segmental pediments. The southern elevation includes two grouped narrow windows below and a single narrow window to the north, with a narrow first-floor window above that breaks the eaves in an ashlar gablet head. There is a full-height rectangular projection on the outer northern bay, which has a flat roof and three lights at the front.

The southern elevation has an M-gable design with two mirrored rectangular projecting windows on the ground floor, two first-floor windows on each gable, and small windows in the gable heads. The northern elevation also features an M-gable with a flat-roofed, single-storey projection at the centre, where doorways are located in the re-entrant angles, and single first-floor windows grouped at the centre.

The villa has 8 and 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows, timber eaves brackets, and barge-boarded gables. The chimney stacks are harled with ashlar dressings, and the roof is covered with turquoise slates.

Inside, there are some notable details, including pine panelling and decorative plasterwork.
