Description
Ravenscraig is a two-storey, three-bay villa built in 1874, situated on a stunning northern-facing site. The villa is constructed from whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings and features stugged quoins. It has segmental-headed openings and stop-chamfered arrises, along with overhanging eaves that showcase exposed rafters.
On the north elevation, the gables are adorned with intricate bargeboards and trefoil details on the bracing. The central entrance features a diagonally boarded two-leaf door with a gabled canopy supported by decorative carved timber brackets and a finial. The broad gabled right bay includes a piend-roofed and corniced canted ashlar window at the ground level, with another window above it. The gablehead displays a datestone marked 1874. The left bay has a tripartite window at the ground level and a bipartite window on the first floor that breaks the eaves, topped with a gabled dormerhead.
The east elevation features a broad gable to the right, with windows shifted to the left on both the ground and first floors. To the left, there is a low single-storey range that is obscured by timber sheds.
The south elevation consists of three gabled bays, with an advanced gabled stair bay at the center. There is a modern timber conservatory providing access from the house on the left side at ground level, and a first-floor window that breaks the eaves with a gabled dormerhead. The right bay includes a projecting gabled single-storey range, featuring oculi on the west return and an apex stack topped with a cockerel weathervane.
The west elevation has a blank gable with a lean-to timber sun-lounge on the right side. An initialled panel is present in the gablehead.
The villa is fitted with timber sash and case windows as well as casement windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring fish-scale patterns on the porch and dormers, and has coped stone apex stacks with octagonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1994.
