Description

Borrowlea is a later 19th century single storey and attic villa with three bays and a gabled design. It is constructed of whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings, featuring stugged quoins, chamfered arrises, and overhanging eaves with exposed rafters.

On the northeast elevation, there is a panelled door at the center topped by a gabled canopy, supported by decoratively carved heavy timber brackets and bargeboards. The right bay has a gabled shape with a canted ashlar window at ground level, bracketed timber eaves, decorative slates, and a piend and platform roof with cast-iron brattishing. Above this is a window, and the gablehead features cross-bracing. The left bay has a window at ground level and a canted timber dormer with a piended roof. There is a lower set-back wing to the right.

The southeast elevation shows a broad gable to the right, with windows displaced to the left at both ground and first floors, and a blind shield in the gablehead. The bargeboards are plain. A single bay to the left is largely obscured by a gabled timber garage.

The southwest elevation consists of three gabled bays, with the right bay projecting and the center bay being smaller. There is a lower wing to the left.

The northwest elevation features the gable end of the lower wing, with a timber sun lounge projecting at ground level and a window in the gablehead.

The villa has timber sash and case 8-pane windows and is roofed with grey slates, including fish-scale slates on the porch and dormer. The coped stone apex stacks have octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1994.
