Description

Maryfield is a 2-storey, 3-bay gabled L-plan villa built in 1873. It is constructed from whinstone with cream sandstone ashlar dressings and features stugged quoins. The building has stop-chamfered arrises and overhanging eaves with exposed rafters.

On the east elevation, there is a projecting gabled left bay that has decorative bargeboards. This elevation includes a 2-storey canted ashlar window with bracketed timber eaves, decorative slates, and a piend and platform roof with cast-iron brattishing. The right return features a window that breaks the eaves and has a gabled dormer head on the first floor. At the ground level, there is a stone porch in the re-entrant angle of the central bay, with a shouldered window to the east and a shouldered doorway to the north. The entrance has a 2-leaf diagonally boarded door with wrought-iron hinges and a datestone reading 1873 above it, topped with a piend and platform roof. The right bay has a window at ground level and first-floor windows that break the eaves, each with gabled dormer heads and decorative bargeboards.

The north elevation features a broad gable with a window at the center of each floor, and plain bargeboards. The south elevation also has a broad gable, but the windows are displaced to the right on each floor. There is a timber bipartite window to the left at ground level and plain bargeboards. A single-storey bay is located at the far left, which includes a back door.

The villa has timber sash and case windows, with plate glass and 4-pane configurations. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped stone apex stacks with octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1994.
