Wetswood, London Road, Stranraer

Wetswood is a gabled villa located on London Road in Stranraer, built in 1876. This two-storey building features an asymmetrical plan and is constructed from whinstone with sandstone ashlar dressings. It has a base course and decorative timber barge boards on the gables, along with overhanging timber eaves. The windows have long and short ashlar surrounds and are arranged in uncanted openings.

On the north elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central entrance with a consoled doorpiece that has elaborate carved strapwork decoration. The entrance includes a recessed timber door and a fanlight above it. To the first floor, there is a single shoulder-arched window. The outer right side has a canted bay with regular fenestration, and a first-floor window that breaks the eaves to form a gable. The left side features shoulder-arched windows in the canted bay at ground level, and a bipartite window on the first floor that also breaks the eaves to form a gablehead, alongside a blank panel.

The south elevation, or rear, has undergone extensive alterations. The building has plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with corniced stacks and circular cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The property is also accompanied by boundary walls that are coped, square-plan gatepiers with semi-circular caps, and decorative railings.
