Bandstand, Stair Park, London Road, Stranraer

The bandstand in Stair Park, London Road, Stranraer, was designed by Walter MacFarlane and Co from the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow and completed in 1911. It features an ornate octagonal plan set on a corniced base, with timber steps leading up to the north. The structure is supported by cast iron columns topped with Corinthianesque capitals, which hold segmentally arched cast-iron spandrels adorned with intricate traceried open work decoration. A moulded cornice, with some remnants of scallop-work, encircles the bandstand. An elaborate heraldic crest is incorporated into the ironwork at the entrance facing Stair Park to the north. Inside, the roof is lined with timber boarding and features a central circular pendant. The exterior is topped with a tall cast- and wrought-iron crown finial, and the bandstand is surrounded by cast-iron railings.
