Description
The bandstand in Dock Park, Dumfries, was built in 1898 by Walter MacFarlane and Co. It is an octagonal structure primarily made of cast iron, set on a red ashlar platform base. The bandstand features a facetted low-pitch roof covered in copper, adorned with decorative cresting and a valance, which includes the burgh arms at the east and renewed platform steps. The roof is supported by eight slender columns that have foliated capitals and lyre ornamentation in the spandrels. The underside of the roof and the platform deck are made of timber, and there is a renewed wrought iron balustrade and gate.
