Description

The boundary wall and terrace are part of the former Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, attributed to John Starforth of Edinburgh and built between 1869 and 1873. The single-storey, three-bay hospital lodge building is constructed of red sandstone and features segmental-arched openings with a central door at the northern entrance to the former hospital site. It has bipartite timber windows and a tall, corniced and bracketed single ashlar stack at the rear, topped with a piended and slated roof. The interior of the lodge was not seen in 2014.

The boundary wall, made of coursed and squared red sandstone, runs along Nithbank Road to the north and south of the hospital site.

The terrace, located to the east of the boundary wall and directly in front of the main block, is also made of red sandstone. It features decorative quatrefoil-shaped pierced balustrading and includes a central flight of steps leading up to the entrance of the main block. The steps to the roadside may have been added later.
