Description

The bandstand in Dunfermline Public Park was designed by Walter MacFarlane and Co from the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow and completed in 1888. It features an octagonal shape with an ogee roof made of cast iron. The structure is supported by a three-tier stone base that holds eight Ionic columns, each with a leaf-moulded base on a fluted pedestal. Surrounding the bandstand is a hooped balustrade adorned with a Vitruvian scroll band, and above the columns are filigreed spandrel brackets. The spandrel at the entrance includes a decorative centre shield that serves as a keystone. Topping the bandstand is a copper ogee roof, which is finished with a decorative finial.
