Description
The bandstand in Duthie Park, Aberdeen, was designed by McDowall, Steven & Co from Glasgow and built in 1893. It is an octagonal structure made of cast iron, resting on a granite plinth that features five steps leading to the platform on the north side. The bandstand is supported by eight cast-iron columns around the perimeter, which are stamped with the maker's name, and one column in the center. These columns have stylized Corinthian capitals with mullets inset. The roof is an octagonal ogee shape made of copper, with a boarded timber underside, and is supported by decorative ironwork brackets. At the apex of the roof, there is a weathervane, and decorative ironwork finials are located at the angles of the roof, with cartouches displaying the Aberdeen coat of arms positioned between them.
