Description
The Hygeia Statue, located in Duthie Park, Aberdeen, was created in 1883 by sculptor Arthur Taylor and designer John Cassidy of Manchester. This statue is made of dressed white-grey granite and features a cruciform base. Each arm of the base has a pink granite recumbent lion. The plinth is chamfered and panelled, with an inscription that reads, "THIS PARK WAS PRESENTED BY ELIZABETH CROMBIE DUTHIE TO THE CITY OF ABERDEEN, AND WAS OPENED BY H.R.H. PRINCESS BEATRICE ON 27TH SEPTEMBER 1883." Atop the structure is a Corinthian column with a fluted shaft, which supports the statue of Hygeia, depicted holding a snake drinking from a cup.
