Description

64 Polmuir Road is a pair of mirrored two-storey and attic houses built around 1900 by G. Sutherland. The houses are constructed from tooled coursed grey granite, which is finely finished at the edges, with a rough-faced base course and a cill course at the first floor. They feature overhanging eaves with timber bargeboards.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with two wide flights of steps leading up to two round-arched doorways located in the central two bays of the ground floor. These doorways have deeply chamfered, decorative inverted Art Nouveau horseshoe surrounds with keystone details. The doors are panelled timber with segmental arches and glazed upper panels, flanked by glazed panels and elaborate stained glass fanlights, with smaller glass panels on either side. Above each doorway is a window, and there are canted windows on the ground and first floors of the outer gabled bays. The attic features a bulls-eye opening set in the gablehead with a decorative surround and an iron finial at the apex, along with a modern skylight in the centre of the attic.

The north and south elevations are gabled, while the west elevation was not seen in 1999. The windows are predominantly two-pane PVCu, except for those on the attic floor. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a lead ridge, with coped gablehead stacks that have octagonal cans. The property also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interiors were not seen in 1999. There is a low coped granite boundary wall to the east of the property.
