Description

George Sutherland, 1904. 2-storey and attic, 11-bay terrace, comprising 5 houses. Tooled grey granite, finely finished to margins. Rough-faced base course; segmental-arched doorways with keystone detail; dividing band course; cill course to 1st floor; overhanging eaves; rectangular dormers to attic floor.

W (GREAT SOUTHERN ROAD) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 5 irregularly spaced doorways to ground floor, panelled Ionic pilastered timber door flanked by stained glass panels to left and right, half Ionic pilasters flanking, decorative stained glass fanlights incorporating house number. 3 canted 3-light windows through ground and 1st floors with coped parapets forming balcony reached from decorative tripartite rectangular dormers; irregularly placed bipartite and single windows to remainder of ground and 1st floors; dormers and skylights to attic floor. Octagonal terminating towers to outer left and right, with quadripartite windows to ground and 1st floors, eaves corniced, octagonal spire.

S ELEVATION: symmetrical; gabled; granite rubble; single windows to centre of ground and 1st floors.

E ELEVATION: not seen 199.

N (MURRAY TERRACE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled; entrance porch to No 89 Murray Terrace off-centre to left at ground floor, decorative timber astragals, dentil moulded cornice; irregularly arranged windows to left bays.

Originally timber sash and case windows with plate glass lower sash and small-pane upper sash, replacement windows to Nos 113, 115 and 119. Grey slate roof with terracotta ridge. Coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

BOUNDARY WALLS: coped rough-faced rubble boundary walls to W and N.
