Description

Clifton Villa, located at 25 Polmuir Road in Ferryhill, Aberdeen, is a late 19th-century two-storey and attic villa with two bays, featuring later additions and alterations. The western elevation is constructed from finely finished, tooled coursed grey granite, while the rest of the building is made from granite rubble with brick dressings. Architectural details include long and short dressings, projecting cills, and overhanging eaves with pierced timber bargeboards.

The principal elevation on the west side is asymmetrical, with a gableted sandstone and granite porch that projects from the right bay on the ground floor. This porch features a round-arched opening with chamfered edges and a keystone detail, along with chamfered outer angles. The entrance includes a glazed, panelled pilastered timber door with a letterbox fanlight above. There is a window above the door on the first floor, and a canted droved sandstone window spans the ground and first floors in the left flanking bay. A window is centered in the gablehead of the attic.

The south elevation is also asymmetrical and has two bays, with a later harled addition on the outer right. The centre of the ground floor features a flat-roofed addition with windows on the left and right returns, and a leaded stained glass stair window above. A modern timber door is located to the left, with a window in the ground and first floors of the right flanking bay. There is a rectangular dormer in the attic floor, along with a doorway and window in the modern addition.

The east elevation is asymmetrical as well, with the left bay obscured by an advanced harled modern addition that has windows on the ground and first floors, and a small window set in the gablehead of the attic. The right bay features a modern plate glass window on the ground floor and a window on the first floor.

The north elevation is blank.

The villa predominantly features four-pane timber sash and case windows, with some modern timber windows that include top hoppers. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a coped brick wallhead stack with a circular can. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The boundary walls consist of a low coped granite ashlar wall on the west side, while the remainder features rubble walls with brick coping, which incorporate a brick lean-to ancillary structure to the southwest.
