Description

6 Polmuir Road in Ferryhill, Aberdeen, is a late 19th-century building designed by G Sutherland. It is a two-storey and attic structure featuring a mirrored pair of two-bay houses. The exterior is constructed from stugged coursed grey granite with polished yellow sandstone dressings, including a sandstone base, band, and eaves courses. Notable features include sandstone canted windows and pilastered panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights, as well as overhanging eaves.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with two architraved doorways located in the central two bays at ground level. Above these, a continual cornice on consoles supports a cast-iron cresting that forms a balcony for the two first-floor windows. The canted windows on the outer left and right bays are flanked by engaged colonettes with decorative capitals, and both bays feature fishscale roofs. The attic level has two single-pane round-arched dormers in the central two bays.

The north elevation is gabled and symmetrical, featuring a window at the centre of the first floor and a round-arched window with decorative tracery set in the gablehead. The west elevation was not visible in 1999, while the south elevation is also gabled and symmetrical, with a window at the centre of the first floor and a round-arched window in the gablehead of the attic floor.

Most of the windows are replacement four-pane timber sash and case. The roof is graded grey slate, adorned with decorative ironwork ridges, and features corniced stone stacks with octagonal cans. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods.

The boundary walls consist of coped granite walls on the east side topped with iron railings, while the north and south sides have rubble coped walls.
