Description
This building, located at 78 Queen's Road in Aberdeen, is a 2-storey, 3-bay villa constructed around 1900. It features tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, which is finely finished on the margins of the southeast elevation, while the rest of the structure is made of Aberdeen bond granite rubble. The design includes a base course, a dividing band course, a first-floor cill course, and segmental-arched windows on the first floor. The eaves are detailed with an overhanging design supported by paired brackets.
The southeast elevation, which is the principal facade, is symmetrical. It has a corniced doorway in the center bay of the ground floor, accessed by stone steps leading to a two-leaf panelled timber door with a letterbox fanlight above. A single window is positioned above this door in the center of the first floor. To the left and right of the ground floor are three-light canted windows that form balconies on the first floor, complemented by bipartite windows with pilastered mullions above.
On the northeast elevation, there is a central gablet with a window in the center of the first floor and a bipartite window to the right. An adjoining single-storey and attic wing is located on the outer right side. The northwest elevation features a single-storey and attic wing that is advanced to the left, with a segmental-arched etched stair window in the center bay of the first floor. The rest of this elevation was not visible in 2000. The southwest elevation is blank, with a central gablet.
The villa predominantly has 2-pane timber sash and case windows and is topped with a piended grey slate roof that has lead ridges. The wallhead stacks are coped with square-plan cans, and the building includes cast-iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the staircase remains intact, but the rest of the interior was not seen in 2000.
The property is also accompanied by square-plan gatepiers on the southeast side, which are shared with adjacent properties, and a low coped wall between them. The remainder of the boundary is formed by brick and granite coped rubble walls.
