Description

66 Queen's Road in Aberdeen is a double villa built in 1899 by John Rust. This two-storey and attic building features six bays and is constructed with rough-faced coursed granite, which is finely finished at the margins of the principal elevation, while the rest is made of coursed granite rubble. The villa has a base course, panelled aprons on the ground floor, a dividing band course, and an eaves course. The overhanging eaves are adorned with a dentil moulded cornice and decorative bargeboards.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with bipartite windows in the center two bays on both the ground and first floors, and a skylight to the left of the attic floor. The gabled bays on the left and right are advanced, featuring three-light canted windows on the ground floor that create a balcony on the first floor. The first floor also has tripartite windows, while the attic floor has bipartite windows set in gableheads, complete with iron finials at the apexes. Open porches are located at the outer re-entrant angles, supported by Tuscan columns, with panelled timber doors leading to the recessed outer bays. The ground floor of 66 Queen's Road has glazed panels and letterbox fanlights, along with a single window on the first floor of each outer bay.

The northeast elevation is gabled and has a window to the left on the ground floor. The northwest elevation was not visible in 2000, while the southwest elevation is also gabled. The building features predominantly two-pane timber sash and case windows, with square-pane leaded and stained glass upper sashes on the southeast elevation. The roof is covered with grey slate and has metal ridges, with coped gableheads, wallhead, and ridge stacks topped with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.

The interiors were not seen in 2000. The property includes square-plan gatepiers on the southeast side, shared with adjacent properties, and a low coped rough-faced granite wall between them. The remainder of the boundary is formed by granite and brick coped rubble walls.
