Description

37 Rubislaw Den South is a double villa built in 1899, featuring two storeys and an attic with four bays. The northern elevation is constructed of coursed rough-faced granite, finely finished at the margins, while the rest of the building is made of coursed rubble. It has a base course, cill courses for the ground and first floors, a dividing band course, and an eaves course.

The northern (principal) elevation is symmetrical, showcasing three-light canted windows on the ground and first floors of the two central bays. It has dentil moulded cornices and half-hexagonal roofs topped with terracotta finials. There are doorways on the ground floor in the outer left and right bays, which are corniced with consoles. These doorways feature pilastered panelled timber doors flanked by glazed panels and letterbox fanlights. Above each doorway, there are bipartite windows on the first floor, and skylights are present in the attic.

The western elevation is gabled, with an off-centre window to the left in the attic floor and a two-storey wing adjoining to the right. The southern elevation was not seen in 2000. The eastern elevation is also gabled, featuring a central window between the ground and first floors and an off-centre window to the right in the attic floor, with a two-storey wing adjoining to the left.

The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows, with small pane upper sashes on the northern elevation. The roof is covered in grey slate with terracotta ridges, and it has stone skews with scrolled skewputts. The gablehead and ridge stacks are coped and have circular cans, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interiors were not seen in 2000. The property includes square-plan rough-faced gatepiers to the north with pyramidal caps, low coped granite walls between, and rubble walls for the remainder.
