Description
The building at 80 Queen’s Road, Aberdeen, is a two-storey, basement and attic villa dating from around 1900. The south-east (principal) elevation is faced with finely finished, tooled coursed grey granite ashlar, with Aberdeen bond granite rubble forming the remainder of the exterior. The basement floor is of rough-faced dark grey granite, and other granite features include a base course, long and short quoins, a dividing band course, eaves course, and overhanging eaves.
The south-east elevation is asymmetrical and features a Tuscan columned porch on the left side of the ground floor, topped with spherical finials. Steps flanked by low walls with spherical finial blocks lead to a panelled timber door, flanked by etched glass panels and a letterbox fanlight. A bipartite window is located on the first floor. A three-light canted window extends through the basement, ground, and first floors of the bay to the right; a basement-level doorway provides access and three-light windows are present elsewhere.
The north-east elevation features a central gable and regular window openings to the central bay. The north-west elevation is also asymmetrical, with a basement-level doorway centrally located and a small window above it on the first floor. Regular fenestration is found on all floors of the bay to the left, while a three-light canted window extends through the basement and ground floors of the bay to the right, with a single window above it on the first floor. A tripartite rectangular dormer sits centrally on the attic floor. The south-west elevation contains a replacement timber lean-to conservatory with iron brattishing. A stained glass tripartite window is located on the first floor above the conservatory, and a gable flanks the right side, with a window to the outer right of the first floor.
The windows are predominantly timber sash and case windows with two or four panes, though some have been replaced. The roof is piended and covered in grey slate with lead ridges. Coped wallhead stacks with octagonal cans rise above the roofline, and cast-iron rainwater goods are present.
The interior is in good condition and includes an etched glass inner door with etched panels, high-quality cornice work, friezes, and ceiling mouldings, particularly on the ground floor. Original door mouldings, architraves, and a timber staircase with turned balusters remain. Marble fireplaces and a distinctive fitted bookcase are also present.
Gatepiers of square plan are situated on the south-east elevation and are shared with adjacent properties, connected by a low coped wall. Granite and brick coped rubble walls form the remainder of the boundary.
