Outbuilding, Helenslea, 37 London Road, Stranraer

This late 18th century outbuilding at Helenslea, 37 London Road, Stranraer, is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan villa designed in a plain classical style. The exterior is harled with painted margins and features a base course and painted margins around the openings.

On the north (entrance) elevation, there is a roll-moulded entrance with a deeply set timber door and a letterbox fanlight above, with a single window aligned above it. Each of the flanking bays has single windows on both floors.

The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case style, with secondary external glazing. There are some modern windows at the rear and a Velux rooflight. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, featuring broad coped gablehead stacks with moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1997.

The property is also complemented by boundary walls, gatepiers, a gate, railings, and an outhouse at the rear. The boundary wall is made of coped rubble and is painted on the north elevation. There are square-plan gatepiers at the central pedestrian entrance with pyramidal caps, as well as square plan piers with pyramidal caps at the outer left and right, and at the vehicular entrance on Lochryan Street. The painted outhouse at the rear is partly tiled and partly covered in corrugated iron.
