Argyll House, Shore Road, Garelochhead

Argyll House, located on Shore Road in Garelochhead, is a villa built in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan and gabled roof. The exterior is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble, featuring painted polished stone margins and dressings, along with chamfered reveals. Notable architectural elements include a base course, quoins, and decorative bargeboarded gables.

On the main elevation, there is a broad gable on the outer left, which includes a canted bay at the ground level with a pierced trefoil stone balustrade. Above this bay is a window that was originally bipartite but now lacks its central mullion. To the right, there is a narrow gabled porch in the re-entrant angle, featuring a four-panelled door with an anchor plaque above it, and a window on the right return. A small dormer-headed window breaks the eaves at the attic level, and there is a bipartite window at the ground level on the right side.

The windows throughout the building are four-pane, plate glass sash and case types. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has lead flashings, with sandstone coped ridge stacks topped with octagonal cans.

The boundary wall surrounding the property is made of whinstone, topped with semicircular quartz coping. The gatepiers are made of painted ashlar and feature pyramidal caps.
