Description

Lillybank is a cottage built in the early 19th century, situated on a corner site along Old School Road in Garelochhead. This single-storey, five-bay structure has a near-symmetrical rectangular plan and features lean-to blocks that form an L-shape. The exterior is finished with white-painted harl, quoin strips, and the eastern elevation is constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings.

On the northeast elevation, there are five widely spaced bays, with an additional lower blank bay on the outer right. The central entrance door is modern, flanked by windows. The eastern elevation includes a lean-to projection made of white-painted brick on the outer right, alongside a rubble block with a half-piended roof extending south. An entrance gate is located off-centre to the left, leading to a gabled rubble block on the outer left.

The eastern entrance gate features a round-arched, covered ashlar entrance with chamfered reveals, topped with a crow-stepped gablehead that includes a cruciform arrowslit. The gate has a wooden boarded and studded door with a decorative cast-iron hinge, a barred small observation window, and a wooden inner frame adorned with diminutive carved wooden gargoyle reliefs.

The garden gate is supported by slender cast-iron piers with raised panels and pyramidal caps, leading to a wooden bipartite gate and narrow railings. The cottage has uPVC windows, with a plate glass sash and case window at the penultimate position on the right. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring a piended design, while the lean-to outbuildings on the eastern elevation also have a slate roof. The property is topped with painted, coped ridge stacks and octagonal chimney cans.
