Description
Glenald, located on Shore Road in Garelochhead, is a mid to later 19th century building. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan, constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble with harl-pointing. The building features pink sandstone margins and dressings, a base course, quoin strips, projecting eaves, and narrow applied non-functional shutters at the first-floor windows, which have chamfered reveals.
The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has three bays that are asymmetrically arranged. At the center left, there is an advanced pink ashlar L-plan porch with a round-arched door that is gabled over, featuring a six-panelled door with a wooden fanlight and a narrow window in the left return. To the right, there is a window in a slightly recessed half-pied roofed bay, and a window at the ground outer right. The first floor has windows symmetrically arranged in the center and outer right bays, with a blank bay to the outer left. A gabled dormer window is located at the center, and there is a flat-roofed garage to the outer right.
The southeast elevation consists of two bays, featuring a canted window at the ground outer right with decorative cast-iron railings and a window above. To the left, there is a ground window with a cornice and cast-iron railings, with a window above.
The southwest elevation has three bays, with a blank bay to the outer right. There is a window at the center ground with a narrow window above, and a narrow window immediately to the left. The outer left bay has windows that are symmetrically arranged. A gabled dormer is located at the center, featuring a lying-pane casement window.
The building has four-pane over six-pane sash and case windows at the ground level, and an eight-pane sash and case window at the first floor. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with sandstone shouldered and coped ridge stacks topped with octagonal cans.
