Description

Peaton House is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan house located on Peaton Road in Cove and Kilcreggan. The exterior features harled and lime-washed walls with polished stone margins, a base course, and quoin strips.

The main elevation has three symmetrical bays with a flat-roofed porch at the center, which includes a two-leaf door with a radiating fanlight. The windows are symmetrically arranged on either side. There are piend-roofed, slate-hung dormers on the right and left, along with a small triangular dormer at the center. To the outer right, there is a lower piend-roofed bay that is recessed, with windows also symmetrically arranged.

The rear elevation, which is on falling ground to the west, has five near-symmetrical bays. The broad three-bay gable at the center breaks the eaves, featuring windows at the ground and first floor in the center and left, a single window to the right at ground level, and an attic window off-center to the left at the gablehead. There is a half-glazed door to the outer right with a window above it, and the outer left has symmetrically disposed windows in the bays, while a blank wall of a recessed block is located to the outer left.

The west elevation displays a broad gable with a French door at ground level to the right, a long window at the first floor to the outer left, and a smaller window to the right. There is a small attic window off-center to the right of the gablehead. The east elevation features a gable with a lower piend-roofed block and a lean-to porch at ground level.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, raised ashlar skews, and coped apex stacks with square cans.

Inside, there is a stone flagged stair hall that is coved at the eastern end, with a stone stair featuring simple balusters. The interior also includes heavy panelled doors and simple cornices.

Additionally, there are gatepiers and a boundary wall made of rubble and harled materials, with drum piers topped with dome caps.
