Description

Bowmont House, located at 19-21 Arbuthnott Place in Stonehaven, is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic and four bays on the first floor, flanked by two-storey pavilion wings. The building is constructed from red sandstone ashlar, featuring contrasting long and short quoins, as well as render and coursed rubble. The main entrance includes a keystoned and voussoired segmental-arched doorway.

On the southwest elevation, the central block has a recessed door with a semicircular plate glass fanlight, flanked by widely spaced windows on the ground floor and four windows on the first floor, with three later dormer windows above. The left wing is set back and has a door with a plate glass fanlight to the right and a window to the left on the ground floor, along with two windows on the first floor. The right wing mirrors this arrangement but has a single window on the first floor.

The southeast and northwest elevations are blank, each featuring a tall wallhead stack. The building has non-traditional 20th-century glazing and is topped with grey slates. There are towering coped ashlar stacks with a full complement of clay cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with skewputts.

The boundary walls are flat-coped rubble, which have been breached and lowered to the southwest.
