Description
Harbour House, located at 429 High Street in Kirkcaldy, is an early 19th-century classical house featuring two storeys, a basement, and an attic. The building is constructed of painted ashlar with raised stone margins and quoin strips, and it has a pedimented wallhead gable, situated on a slope that falls to the south. Notable architectural elements include a part base course, an eaves lintel course, and a cornice. The ground floor windows and the door are framed with stone mullions.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, features ten steps leading up to a block-pedimented and pilastered doorway. This doorway contains a panelled timber door and a deep plate glass fanlight at the center. Flanking the doorway are tripartite windows, each with a wider central light, positioned in bays to the right and left. The first floor has a central window and two additional windows in the outer bays. Above, in the pedimented gable, there is a window with a blind oculus that breaks the eaves, along with flanking rooflights.
On the east elevation, there is a window on the return to the left of a lower, pitch-roofed wing that projects across the center and right bays. This elevation also features a blind oculus to the outer left and a small attic window on the recessed face. The north elevation has three windows on the first floor, while the ground floor is not visible.
The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with red tiles, and the building features ashlar coped skews and cavetto coped ashlar stacks with polygonal cans.
The property is enclosed by coped rubble boundary walls and decorative cast-iron railings that flank the steps leading to the main door.
