Description

3 Bridgefield is an early 20th century pair of linked cottages, each two stories high and featuring a rectangular plan with a piend roof. The cottages have distinctive swept-roof canted windows, terracotta ridge details, finials, and Shavian stacks. They are constructed from red brick, accented with contrasting keystoned door lintels and cills, and have a jettied first floor. The windows include timber transoms and mullions.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, with each center bay featuring a canted four-light window that transitions into a single window breaking the eaves into a finialled dormer gablet. The outer left bay has a nine-panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight beneath a small square window near the eaves on the first floor. The outer right bay mirrors this arrangement but has a replacement nine-panelled timber door.

On the south elevation facing Bridgefield Terrace, there is a single window to the left at ground level and a small square window in the center on the first floor. Number 1 retains its original small-pane glazing pattern over two-pane and plate glass sashes, as well as a horizontal three-pane glazing pattern for the casement windows. Number 3 features late 20th century tilt and turn and top-opening timber windows. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there is a monumental coped brick center stack with cans, an ashlar-coped skew with a block skewputt, and terracotta ridge tiles and finials. The eaves overhang with exposed rafters adds to the character.

Inside, Number 3 showcases moulded plasterwork cornices, panelled timber doors and architraves, a decoratively-detailed cast-iron register grate, and a small carved timber fire surround with a deeply moulded over-mantel in the first-floor bedroom.

The boundary walls surrounding the property are low, coped, and harled.
