Description
2 Queen's Crescent in Edinburgh is a house built around 1870, featuring modern additions. It is a two-storey, two-bay structure with classical architectural details. The exterior is made of cream sandstone squared and snecked rubble, accented with polished ashlar dressings. Notable features include a base course, recessed aprons to the windows, strip pilasters, and carved keystones on the roll-moulded, round-arched architraves. The building also has a cornice, a blocking course on the bowed bay, and long and short quoins.
On the south elevation, the entrance is located in the outer right bay and features a panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above. There is a single window with a bracketed cill on the first floor above the entrance. To the outer left, there is a full-height, three-light bowed bay.
The east elevation has a modern garage extension at ground level, with an advanced tripartite stair window above. The west elevation features a central bowed bay with a single window at ground level and another on the first floor above.
The windows are made of plate glass and timber, with sash and case designs. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended shape. There is a corniced wallhead stack on the west side and a rendered and coped wallhead stack on the east side, both with tall moulded cans.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street.
