Description
28 Bridgend in Duns is a house built around 1865, featuring a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical cross-plan design. The exterior is made of stugged squared and snecked cream sandstone, with chamfered arrises. The first-floor windows extend into gabled dormerheads, and the house has exposed rafters and overhanging eaves.
On the north (front) elevation, there is a projecting gabled central bay that includes a deep-set panelled door with a letterbox fanlight above it. Scrolled strapwork brackets support a balustraded balconette above the door, with a window on the first floor. The roof features an octagonal apex stack, and the blank returns have a corbel course at the first floor. The flanking bays contain timber-mullioned bipartite windows on both floors, and there are finials at the gableheads.
The east and west elevations have blank gables on the north side, with windows in the set-back bay to the south.
The south elevation has a projecting two-bay gable at the centre, with windows in the flanking bays.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring ten-lying-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates and has bargeboards. There are apex stacks, with ashlar stone on the front and brick on the sides, which have been rebuilt in red brick on the west side.
The property is enclosed by a boundary wall with a central pair of obelisk gatepiers that support wrought-iron gates. To the left, there is a low boundary wall topped with saddleback ashlar coping.
