Description

Elmslea is a mid-19th century, two-storey villa located at 124 Observatory Road in Glasgow. The exterior features droved painted ashlar with polished margins. The ground-floor windows are designed with depressed arches and hood-moulds, while the first-floor windows are round-arched with bracketed cills, all fitted with plate glass sashes.

The villa has an asymmetrical three-bay elevation on the south side, showcasing a canted window on the ground floor to the right, and a bipartite window above it with a column-mullion. The entrance on the east flank is stepped back and includes a painted timber porch with openwork spandrels. The round-headed moulded doorway has double-leaf doors, and the vestibule features a tripartite door with glazed acid-etched lights.

On the west elevation, there are two bays with projecting single-storey windows; the left window is square, while the right is canted and has a bipartite window above it. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey service wing. The villa is topped with timber bracketed eaves, corniced wallhead stacks, and slate roofs.

The property is enclosed by stugged coped ashlar boundary and retaining walls, which include two pairs of tall corniced ashlar gatepiers.
