Description
3 Dundonald Road is a square detached gabled villa built around 1870. It features picturesque details and stands two storeys over a basement with attics. The exterior is finished in stugged ashlar with polished dressings and a channelled base course.
The east elevation is asymmetrical with three bays, where the left two bays are slightly advanced and each has a gable. Steps lead up from the basement to an elaborate central doorpiece, which is architraved, consoled, and corniced. The round-arched door has carved spandrels and a frieze band, with a double leaf panelled door and a vestibule door that includes a glazed fanlight. Above the door is a round-arched window, and at the attic level, there is an oculus.
To the left, there is a two-storey canted bay window that is corbelled to a square shape at the attic, featuring a round-arched window in the gable. To the right, a tripartite architraved corniced window is present, with a bipartite window on the first floor that has a moulded cill.
The villa has sash windows with plate glass glazing. A band course runs above the ground floor, and there are recessed giant pilasters at the angles of the advanced left bay. The eaves are very wide and overhanging, supported by timber brackets. The left flank is finished in stugged ashlar, with windows that have polished margins. Corniced wallhead stacks with octagonal cans are visible, and the roofs are steeply pitched and covered in slate.
The entire property is surrounded by a stugged ashlar wall that features tall coped stone gatepiers with the name incised.
