Description

Eadendarroch is a gothic villa located at 65 Midton Road in Ayr, designed by HJ Blanc around 1883. This two-storey building features a dormer head and has an asymmetrical four-bay plan. It is constructed from coursed, squared sandstone rubble and has bracketed timber eaves with iron finials on the gables.

The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, includes steps leading to a single-storey gabled entrance porch. This porch has a two-leaf timber door, and the cantilevers of the bargeboards spring from colonnettes. To the right of the porch is a two-light window. The penultimate bay to the right has a two-light window at the ground floor and a single window at the first floor, with a dormer head above. The ground floor features a prominent five-light bowed window with a detailed cornice, while above it, there is a three-light window at the first floor with a segmental carved tympanum and trefoil work on the bargeboarded gable.

The southwest, northwest, and northeast elevations were not seen in 1999. The villa has plate glass timber sash and case windows, a slate roof, bracketed timber eaves, terracotta ridge detailing, battered pitch stacks, and circular cans. It also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999.

In addition to the villa, there are gatepiers at the entrance on Midton Road, with decorative coping on one. There is a two-leaf iron gate and a short stretch of railings atop the boundary wall leading to the entrance on Victoria Park. The site is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall.
