Description
4 Claverhouse Drive is a villa built around 1900 in the style of Hippolyte Blanc. It is a single storey and attic, three-bay structure with a single storey, one-bay recessed flat-roofed wing that has been converted into a garage with an enlarged opening and timber doors. The villa has a relatively plain appearance from the road, while the rear elevation is more elaborate. It is constructed of coursed red sandstone with ashlar margins and dressings, featuring a base course, cornice, and blocking course. The windows are timber sash and case, predominantly with a 6-pane glazing pattern. The mansard roof is covered with grey-green slates and has ashlar skews, with moulded ashlar stacks that are rounded at the front and rear, resembling semi-engaged colonnettes. Cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.
On the southeast elevation, there are three windows at the ground floor, with a flower motif in a panel above the lintel. The first floor features three stone dormers that rise above the wallhead, with the outer bays having triangular pediments topped with finials, and the centre bay having a semi-circular pediment. A recessed porch is located at the west gable, which has a moulded and pedimented surround and a panelled door.
The northeast (rear) elevation is made of coursed rubble and includes two advanced polished ashlar piended bays that extend through both floors. The ground floor features canted 4-light windows, with a stepped string course above that has a moulded panel. The bays are corbelled to a square in a substantial wallhead that breaks the eaves, and there are advanced pedimented and finialed ashlar dormers in the attic with bipartite windows. Iron finials adorn the piend roofs.
The boundary walls consist of a low ashlar coped squared rubble wall with a wire mesh fence along the road, and a rubble coped wall surrounding the garden at the rear.
