338 Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh

338 Gilmerton Road in Edinburgh is a building from around 1820, possibly designed by Gillespie Graham. It may have originally served as a school and schoolhouse. The structure is positioned close to the street and consists of a two-storey, three-bay house with a gable facing the road, along with two single-storey, one-bay wings that have swept eaves towards the road and a steep pitch at the rear. The exterior is harled with raised margins that are covered in concrete.

On the east elevation, there is a central four-panelled door with a two-pane strip fanlight above it and a small timber pediment. A simple bracketed doorpiece is located above the door. Ground floor windows flank the door, and there are two windows at the first floor in the outer bays, with each wing featuring a single window at the ground floor. The gable ends to the north and south are blind. All the glazing is modern and consists of two-pane tilt windows. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and the house has ashlar coped skews and a square central stack that is harled with a simple ashlar cope. The rear garden is enclosed by rubble coped walls. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1995.
