Description
7 and 7A Blacket Place is a classical villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, symmetrical, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan, constructed from cream sandstone polished ashlar. The ground floor is channelled, while the sides and rear are made of rubble. The building features a base course, a dividing band course, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with architraves around the first-floor windows.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a central doorcase with fluted Greek Doric columns and single pilasters behind, topped with a cornice. The entrance includes a six-panelled timber door and a fanlight with a geometric glazing pattern. There is a single window above the entrance on the first floor, as well as windows on both floors of the flanking bays. To the east, there is a corniced, piend-roofed wing that contains a pedimented doorway, while the west wing has a cornice with the remains of a pedimented opening visible above a two-leaf garage door.
The villa features 12-pane timber sash and case windows with lying panes. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced wallhead stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property also includes rubble boundary walls to the east and west, a low coped boundary wall to the street, and pairs of gatepiers to the east and at the centre.
