Description
18 Blacket Place is a classical villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, symmetrical, three-bay rectangular structure made of cream sandstone polished ashlar, with a heavily rusticated ground floor and rubble on the sides and rear. The building features a base course, a dividing band course, a cornice, a blocking course, and architraves and cornices around the first-floor windows.
On the south entrance elevation, there is an entrance doorcase with fluted Greek Doric columns that support a banded entablature with a modillioned cornice. The entrance includes a four-panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight above it, and decorative ironwork forms a balcony above the doorcase. There is a single window on the first floor above the entrance and additional windows on both floors of the flanking bays. The villa has single-storey wings attached to the east and west, featuring a two-pane window and a pedestrian gateway on the west wing.
The villa is fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate piended roof with corniced wallhead stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street, which includes a bootscraper and evidence of railings.
