Description
16 Blacket Place is a classical villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey, symmetrical building with a six-bay rectangular plan. The exterior features polished sandstone ashlar that is channelled at the ground level, while the sides and rear are constructed from coursed stugged sandstone rubble. Notable architectural details include a base course, a dividing band course, a cornice, and a blocking course, along with lugged architraves framing the first-floor windows.
On the south elevation, the entrance is marked by two central bays that are advanced, featuring paired doorcases with fluted Greek Doric columns and single pilasters behind the outer columns. The entrance includes a four-panelled timber door topped by a plate glass fanlight. There are single windows on the first floor above and on both floors of the flanking bays. The adjoining single-storey wings are corniced, with the eastern wing containing a garage door and the western wing featuring a garage door situated between two pedestrian doors.
The windows consist of 12-pane timber sash and case for No 14 and 2-pane timber sash and case for No 16. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, complete with corniced mutual and wallhead stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street, which has openings for bootscrapers.
