Description
6 Blacket Place in Edinburgh is a pair of classical houses built around 1851. They are two stories high and have a symmetrical six-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is made of polished sandstone ashlar, with a channelled finish at the ground level and stugged masonry on the sides and rear. The design features a base course, cornice, blocking course, and architraved windows on the first floor.
On the south entrance elevation, there are doorcases in the outer left and right bays, which are supported by fluted Greek Doric columns and an entablature. Pilasters are located behind the columns, and the doors are timber panelled with a geometric glazing pattern in the fanlights. Above the doors, there are single windows on both floors of the intermediate bays. The houses have adjoining single-storey wings to the east and west, with the western wing adapted for garage use.
The windows are 12-paned timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a piended design with a corniced wallhead and shared stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property has low coped boundary walls, which include remnants of railings along the street, a bootscraper for No 6, and coped rubble mutual boundary walls with No 4 and No 10.
