8 Granby Road, Edinburgh

8 Granby Road in Edinburgh is a pair of symmetrical houses built in the late 19th century, featuring two stories and four bays with classical architectural details. The exterior is made of cream sandstone squared and snecked rubble, accented with polished ashlar dressings. Notable features include a base course, roll moulded architraves, and scrolled aprons around the windows, as well as an eaves course.

On the entrance elevation, there are segmental arched doorways in the two central bays, flanked by narrow sidelights. The doors are two-leaf panelled with plate glass fanlights above. Each first-floor window is single, while the outer left and right bays are advanced gabled. The ground floor has three-light canted windows, and the first floor features bipartite windows that are corbelled out. The gableheads display foliate carvings in triangular panels.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber, in a sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and adorned with decorative clay ridge tiles. There are coped wallhead stacks to the north and south, featuring very tall cans on the south side, and a coped, panelled, shouldered wallhead stack to the east with foliate moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by a low coped and coursed boundary wall along the street, with replacement railings.
