Description

7 Granby Road in Edinburgh is a pair of symmetrical houses built in the late 19th century, featuring two storeys and four bays with classical architectural details. The exterior is constructed from cream sandstone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Notable features include a base course, a carved key pattern frieze between the floors, a cornice, and decorative cast-iron brattishing on the canted bays. The building also has a moulded cornice and rounded long and short quoins.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, showcases reeded corbels, pilasters, and an incised fleur-de-lys motif on the recessed segmental arched doorways of the two central bays. The doors are panelled, and there are plate glass fanlights above them. A central bipartite window is located on the first floor above, and a carved scallop shell motif adorns the gabled wallhead stack above. The outer bays feature curvilinear gables with carved urn finials, full-height three-light canted windows, and small oval windows at the gableheads.

The windows at No 7 are plate glass timber sash and case, while No 9 has replacements. There is a modern oval pivot window on the north side, replacing an equivalent on the south. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a piended design, coped wallheads, and ridge stacks. The west side has tall paired octagonal stacks with foliate moulded cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street.
