Description

15 Blacket Place is an earlier 19th century classical villa, built before 1833. It is a single-storey, symmetrical building with a rectangular plan and a basement, featuring recessed single bay wings. The villa is constructed from polished sandstone ashlar, with rubble used for the wings, sides, and rear. It has a base course, an eaves course, deeply overhanging eaves, and architraved windows.

On the west (entrance) elevation, steps lead up to a pedimented doorcase supported by Doric columns and single pilasters behind. The entrance features a four-panelled timber door with a three-pane fanlight, flanked by single aproned windows in the adjacent bays. The left wing has a cornice and extends to the rear, with an advanced window bay and steps down to an iron gate that leads to a door behind, accessing the basement. The right wing has an advanced window bay that is continuous with the wing of No 17. There are two basement windows to the left and three to the right.

The ground floor has 12-pane lying-pane sash and case windows. The basement windows include a 2-pane sash and case window on the left, and two 8-pane sash and case windows on either side of a 16-pane sash and case window on the right. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended shape with deep eaves, along with coped wallhead stacks and tall octagonal chimney cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls that feature pineapple finials on iron posts, which support two swagged iron chains. There are lattice ironwork gatepiers at the pedestrian entrance, and corniced piers flank the coped and coursed rubble boundary walls along the street.
