44 Blacket Place, Edinburgh

44 Blacket Place is an earlier 19th century classical villa, built before 1833. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular structure with single-storey piend-roofed extensions at the rear. The villa features polished sandstone ashlar on the front, with rubble on the sides and rear. Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band course, a cill course, a cornice, and a blocking course that is advanced at the center, along with architraved windows.

The northeast entrance elevation showcases a Greek Doric doorcase with a four-panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight. There is a single window on the first floor above the door and additional windows on both floors of the flanking bays. To the southeast, there is a single-storey corniced wing that contains a glazed timber door, and a later second-storey addition, primarily of timber and glass, which forms a sunroom above.

The villa has two-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate piended roof, and coped wallhead stacks. There are modern patio windows to the south of the rear extension and a piend-roofed bay window at the center of the back wall above.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is bordered by low coped boundary walls at the front and high coped rubble boundary walls with two gatepiers along Blacket Avenue.
